Good Snacks are Critical to a Successful Diet

Of all the factors critical to the success of a diet and healthy lifestyle, ‘good snacks’ top the list.

Eating vs. Snacking

Good snacks are so important to a diet, they should be categorized separately. Ah hem, check out the Freedom Diet’s main menu. Lots to tell you about here. ‘Great Snacks’ the category will contain good snacks for any serious lifestyle diet and techniques for making, storing, and even eating them. Yes, it’s really not that complex but there are tips and tricks you need to know.

Kickoff for the ‘Good Snacks’ List

Four items and a tip just for starters. Look for much more snack options moving forward. Meanwhile, some of my favorite ‘good snacks.”

  • Walnuts make good snacks—make that, great snacks—individually or featured in a low sugar dessert concoction. Walnuts are nutritious and crunchy and known to be a top-level super food. Walnuts are satisfying and a few nuts go a long way.
  • Cheese makes the good snacks list on many fronts. A few wedges of Jarlsberg with toasted almonds and a couple of olives was a staple for me losing 50 pounds.
  • Olives, speaking of . . . Olives are another item on the good snacks list. While often a tad briny and oily, still the texture is amazingly complex and satisfying.
  • Blueberries were a surprise entry on the good snacks list. I prefer the taste of straweberries and blackberries but blueberries are quite nice and much easier to manage. Keep a bag in the freezer and eat them frozen or partially thawed for a delicious icy treat.

Four good snacks to kick off the ‘Good Snacks’ list. If you forget what they are, I’m sure you can search online for ‘good snacks’ and find them at Freedom Diet. 😉

Tip: Avoid Salty Snacks

Salty snacks are bad for a few reasons. High sodium foods are not heart healthy. Also, salty snacks encourage repetitive eating and mindless munching. With few exceptions like olives, salty foods do not make good snacks.

Salty snacks, it turns out, are micro-addictive. Every notice it’s hard to stop eating salted popcorn. If you must eat popcorn or pretzels, try eating a variety without added salt.

Okay, that’s all for now. Hope you enjoy safe levels of eating.
