Resistance is Rewarding

Keep it simple and just say no to carbs and sugar. Let’s think of the overly processed stuff in boxes as ‘bad cheats’ that could throw you out of ketosis with too much consumption.

First, a reminder: try not to cheat. But if you do, don’t sweat it. At least don’t sweat it until you can sweat it out at the gym or on the trail. Re-focus on a healthy lifestyle, sooner the better, and the bad cheats will be a faint memory in no time.

How to Resist Cravings

Carb-Heavy Cheats – Not in My House

Make resistance to bad cheats simple. The battle is won if you keep bad diet cheats out of the house. Shopping tips:

Shopping Plan

  • Never food shop when you are hungry
  • Steer clear of processed food aisles
  • Shop around the perimeter of most. Most grocery store layouts have fresh produce and proteins around the perimeter and the bad stuff in boxes down the middle aisles.
  • When you encounter a bad cheat, DON’T BUY IT!
    • Just say no! (from Nancy Reagan)
    • Devil get behind me and don’t thee push! (from Flip Wilson?)
    • Use humor like a shield. (from me)

Humor Helps Avoid Cheating Events

Humor is often the answer in life and makes Freedom Diet fun. If you must travel down a processed food aisle in a grocery store, try interjecting humor into the encounter.

  • Cross you index fingers between you and the offending boxes to ward off subliminal thoughts.
  • Whistle past the graveyard with a little pep in your step.
  • Pick up a box and talk to it. Critique the nutrition label or especially the ingredients.
    • “How dare you, fine sir, temp me with your toxic chemical imbalance.”
    • “Oh, hey there, I see you have more carbs in a serving than I eat in a day. You’re really cute but not my type.”
    • “See you later, not in my refrigerator.”

By the time you notice fellow shoppers staring at you curiously, you’ll be down the aisle and around the corner running for the greens.

Seriously, the ‘Not in My House’ approach to shopping and avoiding bad-cheat events is how to win the resistance battle. And the war!
