The joy of writing

Want to write a book or do you have a story to tell? Then I encourage you, make that, I implore you to start writing, now… today, tonight, as soon as you can acquire a pen or a keyboard… or launch the voice memo app on your phone. It doesn’t matter how you do it or what you write or when you finish, but it is important to write!

Pitfalls don’t matter – writing matters

Be persistent to quickly find a groove and experience the joy so many authors experience when they bare their souls and give creative form to life. And if you find the first word to be a hard one, then here’s a suggestion: skip the first word.

The first word never comes first for me or the last word last. Writing isn’t always that sequential. Usually, I jot down a phrase associated with a topic and ideas flow from there. Avoid pitfalls like getting stuck on a word or phrase. If you experience a hiccup while writing, just add three dots (ellipses) and keep on writing, then circle back later to complete the sentence or thought.

Novel ideas for writing screenplays and blog posts

Writing a novel is not for the faint of heart, but if that’s on your mind to do, then maybe I can help: go for it! You don’t have to write a book right out of the gate, but if that’s your calling, then maybe I can help.

Personally, I started one novel with the working title, Ameritopia, and then a second work in an entirely different genre which I finished first: Generation Justice: Red Clover. Also, along the way I discovered the joys of screenwriting: Martianity, Blue Devil Springs, Wet Kiss, and Recharge (preparing for pre-production); and blogging: 77006.com for creative types and ShameyAwards.com for politics, but Ameritopia still isn’t finished. It will be… right after Meanism and Propagandaville, both due out by the end of the year.

Who knows what writers will discover

Writing is so much fun. Who knows what you will discover in your mental journey, but I almost can guarantee it will be a labor of love rather than one of frustration. My expedition has taken me through various topics and stories with different genres from sci-fi and crime-solving fiction to self-help and political nonfiction.

As for techniques, I consider creation and refinement of headers and captions to be part of the fun and unexpectedly discovered the joys of developing outlines and writing dialogue – didn’t see that coming.

Writing and publishing tips and tools

The 77006.com blog already includes a few posts and content to help beginning writers. More useful content is planned going forward and I’ll share much of what I’ve learned about writing and publishing plus throw in tips, tricks and simple tools I developed that just might help.

Good luck with your efforts. Now, get with it and have fun!

  • I too experience the joy of writing. I post on a Facebook page as ADMIN for IT Jobs Issues and Labor practices. I find that when the urge to write comes to your mind, do not delay, proceed to write and write fast as your mind and fingers allows. I get fits of passion that elevate me. After the first go around, I think about what I wrote and make adjustments. Other times the joy of writing is something I will mull over in my head for a few days, that being the basic outline, then when the mood hits, I hit the keyboard. I found if you do not have the joy, then do not try to force writing. Wait for the passion, it will come, As it did for this post.

  • Excellent advice… inspiring! I’m sure to stay up late writing tonight.
