2022 will be a year of transition, and saying good riddance to the pandemic surely tops everyone’s list – bye-bye! But I’m also excited about a handful of innovative concepts ready for publishing and online development.

What happens to Christmas Village and much-loved iconic figures when climate extremes ravage Santa Claus’ home at the North Pole? “After the Ice Melts,” a paradigm-shifting Christmas story chronicles Santa’s quandary when shrinking Arctic Ocean ice necessitates a search for his new home.

Can Online Activism Save Christmas and Humanity?

When fiction meets reality, opportunities exist for climate activism to make a difference. The overlap happens because the Christmas legend is bumping up against global warming, and the Arctic region is facing the climate crisis on the front lines. What could be more tragic to Christmas than no ice at the North Pole?

The concept works because Santa Claus is the best-known victim of climate dislocation and others need rescue too. Missus Claus, reindeer, elves, and the toy workshop are all at risk as is… Christmas!

After the Ice Melts” – a New Tool for Climate Activism

After the Ice Melts,” is published as a paperback but it provides more than one tool. The book’s cover imagery is perfectly suited for posters and messaging. It shows a blowup yard Santa bobbing in the Arctic next to a flagging North Pole marker and a cute little polar bear cub atop a small chunk of floating ice.

Toys, posters, stickers, and all types of merch can help fund the cause. Soggy Elf is an endearing leading character but even the villainous Mr. Pollutey is an easy sell.  The novel was adapted from a screenplay script written for animation, so a memorable cartoon is plausible as are a stageplay and other productions.

Humor and charming characters keep the tale fun, bright, and entertaining, but the consequence of failure is dire. For the first time in a Christmas story, the fate of our favorite holiday is connected to climate change.

Green Marketing and Merchandise

The new Christmas archetype is a good example of how marketing and merchandise can benefit climate crisis awareness and deflate climate deniers and denial conspiracies. Green, innovative concepts are integrated into marketing.

The full concept of operations is proprietary and still in development but might include several integrated websites and brands. A few prototypes are online now: EarthMart, GreenHQ, and HelpTerra.

Timing is everything, they say, and the plotline unfolds during summer. The Christmas-in-July setting makes the concept a year-round Christmas story.
